Amino Resins

Amino resins (aminoplasts) are condensation thermosetting polymers of formaldehyde with either urea or melamine. Amino resins  like urea-formaldehyde are hard, rigid, and abrasion-resistant. They are self-extinguishing and have superior electrical properties as well as excellent dimensional stability and good creep resistance. They are noted for their high impact strength and resistance to water and solvents.

Urea Formaldehyde

Non-transparent thermosetting resins used in adhesives, plywood, particle board, medium-density fibreboard, molded objects, and low cure baking enamels for metal undercoatings.

Performance: low cure temperature, good adhesion, good flexibility, good compatibility with epoxy resin.

Melamine Formaldehyde

A complex, interlinked polymer that cures to a clear, hard, chemically resistant resin, melamine formaldehyde is employed in plywood and particleboard adhesives, laminated countertops and tabletops, dishwasher-safe tableware, and automotive surface coatings.

Performance: Excellent gloss, good hardness, chemical resistance, water resistance.

Urea-Melamine Formaldehyde

Melamine Urea Formaldehyde (MUF) Resins are poly-condensation products of the reaction of formaldehyde with urea and melamine. These resins have higher water and weather resistance and therefore are suitable for the production of panels for exterior use or in conditions of high humidity. Variation on the MUF ratio formulation gives different resin properties.

Performance: Various viscosities (dependent on MUF formulation), good gloss, excellent toughness, good adhesion, good stability, good flexibility, low odor.

Applications: Acid curing systems, baking enamels.

Benzoguanamine Formaldehyde

Benzoguanamine formaldehyde (BF) resins are crosslinkable triazine-type aminoplasts. They contain alkoxymethyl functional groups which readily react with resins containing hydroxyl, amide or carboxyl functional groups yielding three-dimensional thermoset polymer networks. Functional polymers cured with BF resins have typically a lower crosslink density than polymers cured with (etherified) melamine-formaldehyde (MF) and therefore have improved film flexibility and toughness.

Performance : excellent chemical resistance, excellent toughness, good hardness, low/medium viscosity, excellent flexibility.

Applications: baking enamels for metal application.
